Explanation of “Good Faith” Estimate
The “No surprise” good faith law requires that health care providers inform patients about potential costs of treatment. In an effort to meet this requirement I have developed a form and some explanations of costs.
When I am seeing self-pay patients, I will provide an estimate of costs for services. Because at the beginning of therapy I have no reasonable way to estimate how long treatment will last I use a year to estimate costs.
In situations where I am accepting insurance the estimate is more difficult to calculate. Some insurance plans will have a deductible, and a co-pay. If I am participating in your insurance plan, I will accept what the plan determines to be an “allowed” rate and your costs will depend on that allowed rate and any deductible or copays requirements.
